Giro d'Italia 2026 stage eight results: Jhonatan Narváez punches his way to second stage win

The Ecuadorian champion broke away from Andreas Leknessund on the steep muri on the road to Fermo

Jhonatan Narváez (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) attacked his way to a second stage win at the 2026 Giro d'Italia, getting away from his breakaway rival Andreas Leknessund
(Uno-X Mobility) over the steep muri to Fermo in the final 10km. The pair were in a break with Narváez's teammate Mikkel Bjerg and the UAE team played it perfectly to grab their third stage of the race.

Before the finish in Fermo, Bjerg was caught by the second group, and it was Leknessund's teammate Martin Tjøtta who crossed the line in third.

Despite a few digs from the pink jersey Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain-Victorious) and Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), there were no significant gaps among the general classification riders, with Hindley and Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) gaining two seconds on their main rivals.
