Desire: Colnago 87 – Happy Birthday Ernesto

Desire: Colnago 87 – Happy Birthday Ernesto

Synonymous with quality craftsmanship, style and perhaps even flamboyance – Colnago presents its namesake with a gold plated masterpiece.

Everyone who’s anyone was at Thursday evening’s invite-only birthday party of the great Ernesto Colnago. Held at the Old Royal Navy College in Greenwich, a who’s-who guestlist of friends, admirers and colleagues turned out to pay tribute to the man himself on his 87th birthday.

In terms of gifts, Colnago somewhat broke the bank, presenting Ernesto with a one-of-a-kind, gold plated Colnago 87 – worth an incredible €50,000 Euros. The 24 carat gold Arabesque frame is not dissimilar to the one presented to Pope John Paul II in 1979. Its no expense spared build features a complete heritage Campagnolo Super Record groupset.

Rouleur was in attendance to celebrate the occasion and especially to honour Colnago’s induction into the Cycling Hall of Fame.

Modelled after the original Arabesque frame from Colnago
Toe clips for the classic look
Downtube shifters – not the most function – but nobody is going to ride this we would bet
