Pinarello F Series: Historic brand updates its popular range

Stiffness and aerodynamic updates from one of the original proponents of marginal gains


From its beginnings in Giovanni 'Nani' Pinarello's bike shop in the outskirts of Treviso in 1952 to 16 Tour de France victories thanks to Pedro Delgado, Miguel Induráin, Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Egan Bernal, Pinarello has been the epitome of success in the world of cycling. 

The Italian brand can call on over 70 years of experience, innovation, skill and craftsmanship to create a number of high-end bikes focused on performance. The latest update is the next generation of the Pinarello F Series, which are bikes designed for competitive, tech-focused riders who are looking for a balance between performance, weight and price.

As was the case with the models in the previous Pinarello F Series, the newest version of the bikes is for the riders who aren't keen on splashing out on the Dogma F, but still want to experience the Italian brand’s craft and artistry. This is not to disparage the F Series range, which is still heavily influenced by the Dogma, one of the most recognisable bikes in the professional peloton thanks to the results of Team Sky and Ineos Grenadiers in the past decade. Pinarello have taken some of the aspects they developed in making the race bike, like the aerodynamics, stiffness and weight-savings.

In the eternal chase for marginal gains, made famous by Team Sky, the F Series range features a notable rework on the front end, beginning with a lighter E-TICR headset. Sleeker, smarter, it tucks cables through the front of the elliptical steerer tube, rather than down the sides, reducing frontal drag and keeping the cockpit clean. The head tube narrows subtly at the top with asymmetric bearings (slim above, wider below) allowing for a tighter profile without sacrificing stiffness or stability.

Aerodynamics take centre stage with the head tube, which is now wider with softened contours. Below, the down tube has been pared down in thickness for better aerodynamics, making it not just faster, but faster with less effort. The iconic Onda fork doesn’t escape attention either. It's slimmer, with a 47mm rake for improved handling.

The Compact Aero Keel bottom bracket is stiffer than before and it offers space for up to 32mm tyres, underscoring the F Series’ modernity without ever straying from its racing lineage. Even the seat clamp has been reimagined. It's now tucked at the front, its soft-edged silhouette hides in plain sight, offering improved resistance to sweat and dust while contributing to the bike’s unmistakable visual flow. A bike for the purist who is not just interested in their watts, but in their style.

F series specifications

The new F Series range is completely updated and has five different models, starting at F1 and moving up in specification through F3, F5, F7 and topping out at F9, which is decked out with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, at the very top of the component company’s multitude of offerings.

With a Dura-Ace groupset the F9 is not far off superbike level, equipped with MOST Ultrafast 45 DB wheels and a Toray T900 carbon frame. It comes in a striking 'Formula Green Matt'. With this set up and the Talon Ultra Fast handlebar, it weighs a claimed 7.4kg.

The F7 is also made up of a T900 carbon frame and is decked out with Shimano Ultegra or SRAM Force AXS, and MOST Ultrafast 45 DB wheels. Paired with the Talon Ultra Fast handlebars, it's 400g heavier at 7.8kg. The F7 is available in a number of different colours: 'Alabaster White Shiny', 'Starry Red Shiny', 'Formula Green Matt' and 'Victoria Blue Shiny'.

Both the F5 and F3 have T700 carbon frames, and both are fitted with the Shimano 105 Di2 groupset. The former has MOST Ultrafast 45 DB wheels and is available in 'Etna Black Matt' and weighs in at 8.25kg with the Jaguar Claw handlebars. The F3 is 8.5kg with DT Swiss A1800 DB wheels and the same handlebars, and the F1 uses Shimano 105 with Shimano WH RS-171 wheels and a T600 carbon frame in 'Carbon Red Matt' and 'Comet Silver Shiny'.
